Want fresh hair without getting wet? Do you want a homemade greasy hair solution?  I sure do need that last minute pickup several times a week. I have always had oily, greasy hair and dry shampoo is a necessity in my everyday beauty routine. I recently checked out a store bought version and I was shocked on how awful the ingredients are. I am very carful on what I am putting on my body as the skin is the biggest organ for absorbing chemicals. Pores that are congested and blocked with chemicals and pollutants prevent skin from functioning properly and removing toxins.  Be aware of what you put on your skin, not all the bottles you see at grocery stores that claims they are natural and organic truly are. The word perfume for example can hide up to 300 different chemicals.

Homemade Greasy Hair Solution

Homemade Dry Shampoo Recipes

For dark/ brown hair 

• 1 tablespoon shikakai powder ( get it here )
• 1 teaspoon cacao powder
• 1 teaspoon corn starch or arrowroot powder
• few drop of your favorite essential oils ( get the purest here )

For Lighter hair

• 2 tablespoon arrowroot powder or corn starch  
• 1/4 teaspoon turmeric ( get it here )
• 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon ( get it here )
• 5 drops essential oils of your choice ( get the purest here )

Note: Please mix the ingredients according to the color of your hair. More arrowroot for lighter hair and more of the darker ingredients for darker hair.

DIRECTIONS:

1. Mix all ingredients together in a small bowl or container with a lid.
2. Sprinkle mixture onto scalp and hair roots, then work in with fingertips. You can use a clean makeup brush to apply to the roots. Apply evenly.
3. Make sure you allow the product to sit for a couple of minutes before styling.
4. Once it has had a few minutes to work into the hair and roots, make sure you comb or blow-dry it to help it blend well.

Dry shampoo is a great way to get ride of a last minute oily hair and also if you have thin hair like me and blow drying making it flat, dry shampoo is also a great solution. I’s suitable for men, women and kids.

How to make smoothing body coffee scrub

Ingredients

• 2 tablespoon ground  coffee
• 1 tablespoon organic sugar
• 3  tablespoons organic coconut oil
• 2 drops myrrh essential oil
• 2 drops geranium essential oil
• 1 drop cinnamon essential oil ( optional )

Instructions 

In a bowl combine all the ingredients together and store in a mason jar. I usually store my DIY products in the fridge to preserve their freshness. I also make small portions.

Note: This scrub is great for the face too. It’s messy in the shower, but it gets you the most smooth and glowing skin.

Every healthy skin care regimen includes daily-use and weekly-use products. I use to go to a spa salon for a facial at least once a month and let those ladies put all kind of harsh chemicals on my face, but hey I didn’t know better. I thought I was doing something nice and loved just laying down and relax while someone is pampering me. Those old days are gone and I am so glad I switched to DIY and can make some amazing products that use to spend so much money on at home without the harsh chemicals. It has been and continuing to be an amazing passion.

I really believe that nutrition is what matters the most when it comes to having a great skin, but I also believe that non toxic beauty products are a must. Wouldn’t you feel weird if you do everything right from inside to have a beautiful skin and use harsh chemicals to take care of the top layers?

To add some info on the  nutrition subject  for a healthier skin, I recently read this book (Primal moms look good naked) from Peggy Emch, she explores how nutritional deficiencies contribute to early aging, cellulite, stretch marks, and sagging jowls. Though we can manufacture collagen within our bodies, we need certain building blocks to do that. Gelatin is basically powdered collagen, so it’s kind of a no brainer to start there and let a nutrient-dense diet add in the rest (protein, vitamin C and zinc are also needed). I use this grass-fed kosher gelatin in my smoothie every morning and I am actually going to use it in the recipe below too.

Homemade Face Mask recipe

Ingredients

• 1 tablesppon clay powder ( get it here )
• 1 tablespoon diatomaceous earth ( get it here )
• 1/2 cup great lake gelatin ( get it here )
• 5 drops lavender essential oil ( get it here )
• 2 drops Frankincense essential oil ( get it here )
• Water to mix

Instructions

1. Mix all the dry ingredients in a bowl
2. Add essential oils
3. Add water until you feel like you are forming sort of a paste between your fingers
4. Put in a food processor or blender for a smoother texture ( optional )
5. Put in a mason jar with a lid
6. Keep in the fridge and use two times a week
7. Apply on a clean washed and dried face. leave  for 15 minutes and rinse it off

Vitamin C Benefits For Your Skin 

So many of you have asked me what DIY beauty I use on a daily basis. To Begin; one of the DIY products I can not live without is my Vitamin C serum. It helps my skin feel and look great.I apply it all over my face and neck every SINGLE night before I go to bed.

Vitamin C serum is one of the priciest skin care products on the market.  But today I am going to show you how you can make your own for under $10! Get excited people!!

There’s probably not a product on the market that doesn’t boast Vitamin C as an ingredient, but here’s the thing. Vitamin C is highly volatile and breaks down very quickly. By the time a skincare product is packaged, shipped, shelved, and hits your cart, the Vitamin C within is already well on its way out of town. The yards-long ingredient list you’ll find on these products is the manufacturer’s desperate attempt to stabilize this beast. Which translates to low Vitamin C benefit for your skin, plus a daily schmear of random chemical soup.

 Homemade Serum Recipe

Ingredients

• 1 teaspoon Vitamin C Powder (Find non GMO, natural Vitamin C HERE)
• 2 teaspoons distilled water
• 1 teaspoon glycerin  (Find HERE)
• ⅛ teaspoon Vitamin E  (Find non GMO, natural Vitamin E capsules HERE)
• small amber or dark glass bottle (Find them HERE)
• 2 drops Frankincense essential oil ( I only recommend this brand )

Instructions

1. Mix ingredients in a small bowl until the granules are dissolved
2. Transfer to a dark glass bottle
3. Apply to the skin at night after cleansing and toning
4. Let the serum soak in and then apply your moisturizer as usual

Notes: An easy way to make sure your Vitamin C is in the perfect form to get the most benefits you can use a pH test strip. Your serum should be right around 3.5.
Secondly, remember, vitamin C oxidizes quickly so my recommendation is to use it quickly. Make a small batch and use it only for 3-5 days. It is some extra work, but trust me, the benefits are worth it.

Use an amber glass bottle to store the serum as vitamin C degrades quickly with light. Hence, do not store using clear glass.

This serum is great to use on the backs of your hands as well. As most of us already know, sun spots show up on the hands first. Vitamin C can cause your skin to be a little red at first. When you apply it, a small amount of tingling is normal. If it is burning, remove it immediately. Don’t worry – you can just add more water and/or glycerin to your mixture. This will dilute the Vitamin C so it is more suited for your skin.

My recommendation is to use this only at night to start. If you think your skin can handle more go ahead and use twice a day.

1. Drink water: Try to drink at least half of your body’s weight in ounces of water a day. Even with a small amount of dehydration, your body functions in a less optimal way. The instant you’re dehydrated, it will take a toll on your skin, causing it to look dull, flaky, saggy and loose.
2. Detox: Another most important step to a beautiful, radiant skin is detoxifying your body. A clean biology will affect the look of your skin tremendously. If you don’t have healthy digestion functioning, detoxification of the liver and kidneys, then it will show on your face. When these problems occur the skin tone looks unhealthy. Constipation and bad skin go hand in hand, so aim to have to easy bowel movements a day. What I found helpful for constipation was drinking water, consuming, fiber, and probiotics. Also ingesting few drops of Digenze essential oils helped a lot with the feeling of bloating. If you can’t figure out a plan for a detox I recommend this 21 days sugar detox. It’s amazing and so easy to follow.
3. Sleep: Sleep is very important for overall health. I noticed a big change in my skin tone after I started sleeping at least eight hours at night. 5. Remove makeup before sleeping:  Your skin also needs breathing. If you sleep with makeup on your face, your pores remain clogged throughout night and with clogged pores you cannot have clear skin. Some makeup removers could be very damaging for your skin. My Favorite way for removing makeup is by putting  some coconut oils on a cotton and clean my face.
6. Exfoliation: Exfoliating your face on a regular basis can improve the results of your skin care routine and help rejuvenate your skin. Whether you have dry, normal, oily or sensitive skin, exfoliation can bring new life to your complexion. Checkout My homemade face and body scrub recipe.
7. Eat Healthy: Food can talk to all three layers of the skin. Eat some words of love by including the following in your diet: blueberries, pomegranate, spinach, parsley, turmeric, butter from grass fed sources, coconut oil, bone broth, pastured eggs, grass fed meat, salmon, almonds, and kefir.
8. Exercise: Exercising regularly does not only help in keeping your weight under control, but it also stimulates blood circulation throughout your body including face.
9. My boys asked me the other day why am I just making DIY beauty for myself and not for daddy :). They sure got me with this :).  Well,  daddy uses my Deodorant, my hair solution, and my tooth paste , but yes it’s time to make him some special goodies too.

My husband never uses an after shave cream, but I thought he would like the idea of something that will keep his skin moisturized, smooth and smelling good, So me and the boys made him this face balm that I am about to share with you. It smells amazing and would be a great idea as father’s day or birthday  gift. It’s also so easy to make.

Homemade Face Balm For A Smoother Daddy face Recipe

Ingredients

• 1 ounce organic beeswax (where to buy beeswax)
• 1.5 ounces shea butter (where to buy shea butter)
• 2 ounces jojoba oil – This is a “dry” oil that keeps the formula from being too greasy. (where to buy jojoba oil)
• 5 drops sacred frankincense essential oil ( where to buy )
• 5 drops patchouli essential oil ( where to buy)
• 2 drops lavender essential oil ( where to buy )
• 2 drops Shutran essential oil ( where to buy )

Instructions

1. Melt beeswax in a double boiler over low heat
2. When the beeswax is melted, add in shea butter
3. When the mixture is melted, add jojoba and stir until just melted
4. Pour mixture into a container and allow to cool slightly, then add essential oil
5. Transfer into a mason jar and keep in a cool dark area. like bathroom cabinets

I then tried different recipes and this one I am sharing with you today, not only cleans and kept my teeth from getting cavities, but also I saw a tremendous change in my teeth color. They look whiter and brighter.

Overview about the main ingredients used in this recipe

Turmeric is known as the spice that stains your cutting board, cooking tools, and clothes. Well, surprisingly it’s very affective for natural teeth whitening. Some people can see a difference for the first use and some may see it overtime. I am not going to lie to you and tell you that you will get the fake look from the hollywood stars as those often got veneers, but I promise you that you will see and feel a difference. There is numerous studies done about the benefits of turmeric for our health. This one shows that it had a positive effect on gingival inflammation.  Almost every DIY beauty recipe my mom use to make includes Turmeric. She is now sixty years old and you can barley see any fine lines in her face.

Botanical Clay is one of the best beauty and healthy food based ingredient you must have at home. Homemade whitening toothpaste recipe

Ingredients:

• 4 tablespoons botanical clay ( I use this brand )
• 2 Tablespoons baking soda ( where to buy )
• 1 tablespoon turmeric
• 1 tablespoon calcium powder ( Where to buy )
• 1/2 cup coconut oil ( where to buy )
• 1/2 cup almond oil (where to buy )
• 5 drops peppermint essential oil ( where to buy )
• 3 drops clove essential oil ( where to buy )
• Few drops of stevia for Test ( optional ). (where to buy )

Instructions:

1. Mix all the dry ingredients together
2. Melt the coconut oil in a double boiler. Remove out of the heat and add the almond oil.
3. poor the mixture into the dry ingredients
4. mix well and add the essential oils

Note: if you’re suffering from tooth decay and want to beat it naturally , you need to increase your fat soluble vitamin and mineral intake. If you want some ideas about a diet to follow, read these simple steps:

• Diet rich in animal foods like bone broth, meat, fish and eggs
• Raw and cooked vegetables especially green leafy vegetables
• Raw dairy like kefir, cheese and grass-fed butter ( If you tolerate them )
• low carb fruits like berries
• High vitamin D – get plenty of sunshine and days not in sun supplement with 5,000IU daily of D3
• Foods high in healthy fat like coconut oil, avocado, olives and fish or fermented cod liver oil

I had a girls night at my home and we had fun making lots of beauty DIY, Lipsticks, romantic massage oil, bath bombs, smoothing facial oil…etc.

I love making my own products. After trying some lipsticks recipes with infused herbs and flowers for colors, my best result in coloring is by using a mineral called Mica, It’s often used in mineral makeup, soaps and other natural beauty products.  Mica is a brittle silicate mineral and it comes in many colors. It is considered safe and non-toxic. You can read more about it here.

Natural Homemade Lipstick Recipe

Ingredients

• 1 tablespoon coconut oil. ( get it here )
• 1 tablespoon Shea butter or cocoa butter. ( get it here )
• 1 tablespoon organic beeswax pastilles. ( get it here )
• ½ tsp mica red powder color. ( get it here )
• 1/4 tsp mica cold powder color. ( get it here)
• 15 drops citrus fresh essential oil. ( get it here )
• 5 drops carrot seed essential oil. ( get it here )

You can use any color options you like. I personally love the outcome of this combination.This lipstick can be used at the beach to protect your lips from burning.

Instructions

1. Melt coconut oil, Shea or cocoa butter and beeswax in a double boiler.
   Remove from heat.
2. Wait ONE minute to let it cool a little to make sure we preserve the thearpeutic properties of the essential oils.
3.  Stir in Mica Powder and essential oils .
4. stir and mix with the end of a spoon and let it harden for a few seconds. Test the color and scent with your finger or on the skin of your wrist to make sure you like it. You can always add more color if you like.
5. Use a glass dropper to quickly transfer the mixture to the lip gloss containers.
   Let cool for 1 hour. Cap and use as needed.

Essential oils are not created equal, if you ever want to make your DIY please make sure to use the ones I recommend. I only use and recommend Young living essential oils.

DIY Purifying and Smoothing Face Mask

I once in my life had to deal with severe acne on my face, and that was the worst thing that could ever happened to me. I hated looking in the mirror, and the worst thing was every time I tried a treatment I made it look worse. All the dermatologists I visited said it’s hormonal and of course there is a certain truth to that, but I also learned over the years that nutrition and choosing the right products can make a big difference too.

I recently joined Young Living Essential Oils and I think this was the best decision I made in 2014. I love making my DIY beauty recipes and finally taking my passion to the next level.

I made this mask for my little sister who like me was suffering from acne for years, and I was amazed on how her skin started to clear up after just few uses. Preparation 

1. Mix clay powder, rose water and water to form a paste.
2. Add essential oils and keep mixing for two minutes or pass through a food processor.
