Homemade Essential Oils Deodorant

One of the hardest things for me to give up whenI started turning into DIY personnel care was deodorant. The one I am sharing with you today is the essential oils based deodorant which I called ” Rose Blossom deodorant”. Even though this recipes  contains more than one essential oil. I love flushing out the rose scent as it’s one of my favorite essential oils for making DIY beauty and personal care recipes.

This essential oil deodorant is  the only personnel care that I apply automatically after my morning shower.I don’t recall myself forgetting to do it.

Reports have suggested  that the deodorant we see at the grocery store shelves  contains harmful substances, which can be absorbed through the skin or enter the body through nicks caused by shaving. Some scientists have also proposed that certain ingredients in underarm antiperspirants or deodorants may be related to breast cancer, because they are applied frequently to an area next to the breast.”

Some toxic chemicals to look out for are:

Aluminum Compounds
Parabens
Propylene glycol
Triclosan
Steareths

Here is a little description about the ingredients I use to make this recipe

Baking Soda is a universal odor neutralizer. Most deodorant mask unpleasant odors instead of neutralizing them. Fighting off odor is always better than just covering it up. Make sure you use baking soda and not baking power. Baking powder has chemicals that can react poorly to the skin. Get it here.

Arrowroot Powder  is a go-to for deodorant recipes, for good reason. Actually, I always have some on hand for both food and skincare recipes. Arrowroot not only helps to serve as a thickener in this deodorant, but it also has the power to help draw out toxin. Get it here.

Rose essential oil is used in creams, lotions and soaps for its amazing fragrance and its moisterizing properties. Rose water, recovered from the distillation of rose oil, is mildly astringent and beneficial for cleansing and refreshing dry, sensitive skin.

Purification essential oil is a blend of Lemongrass, Citronella, Rosemary, Lavandin, Myrtle, and Melaleuca.Purification can be used directly on the skin to cleanse and soothe.

Frankincense Essential Oil is known for it’s soothing and moisturizing properties.

Lavender essential oil is the most versatile of all essential oils. It acts gently on the skin and give it a natural glow and refresh when used as a moisturizer with a carrier oil.

Cedarwood essential oil Has a long history as an incense and perfume. The wood was burned by the Greeks and Romans to fragrant the air.

Coconut oil has gained huge popularity in the past few years due to its numerous health benefits. What makes coconut oil great in this recipe is one of it’s natural acids. Lauric acid helps kill off bacteria, viruses and fungi. Bacteria loves warm places like armpits. Lauric acid aids in maintaining freshness and fighting odors. Get it here

 How to make Homemade Essential Oils Deodorant?

INGREDIENTS

• 3 tablespoons coconut oil
• 2 tablespoons baking soda
• 2 tablespoons arrowroot powder (can add more for a thicker deodorant)
• 4 drops of rose essential oil. Get it here
• 2  drops of lavender essential oil. Get it here
• 2  drops of frankincense essential oil. Get it here
• 2  drops of Purification essential oils. Get it here
• 1 drop of cedar wood essential oil. Get it here

Note: I keep my deodorant in the fridge to preserve it and keep the thickness. 

I recommend only young living essential oils and you get them here.

INSTRUCTIONS

Simply mix to combine all the ingredients in a small bowl.
I like storing mine in a small glass jar with a lid. Or you can get these empty deodorants containers here. 
If you enjoy a creamier deodorant similar to a moisturizer, use more coconut oil.
If you enjoy a harder deodorant similar to a stick, use more arrowroot powder.
Apply to underarms as needed, rubbing in.

You can use a popsicle stick to get the deodorant out of the container or your fingers. There are no rules, just make sure you use enough under your arms to keep you “sure” all day long. You don’ t need a lot though. Make sure you speed it all around to avoid oil stains on your clothes.
